With nearly 40 years in the Hospitality Business from humble beginnings starting in a Caravan Park to Downing Street and running State Banquets at The Guildhall to Michelin Stars, a wine knowledge based on his love of Australian Wine and a dedication to educating the young as well as working with numerous Charities, Roger is delighted to encourage all that is good in the Wine and Catering Trade.
He writes a wine feature every month in the trade publication; The Caterer, contributes to The-Buyer, Harpers, Decanter Magazine and Glass of Bubbly, judges at The Decanter World Wine Awards, Germany’s top 100 Wines, The Sommelier Awards, The Welsh Wine Awards, The Moet Sommelier of The Year and regularly sits on the Decanter panel tastings.
Roger travels widely as part of his journalism and food and wine consultancy business. In the last year he has visited Alsace, Rioja, Franciacorta, Amalfi, Veneto, Morocco, Turkey, France and South Africa.
Every January Roger together with his wife Sue retreats to Cape Town in South Africa where he hosts numerous events January including the Tri Nations Wine Challenge Dinner at The Vineyard Hotel in Cape Town, a Wine Dinner at Ken Forrester’s 96 Winery Road and an MCC v England & Wales Sparkling Wine Challenge at The Vineyard Hotel in Cape Town. Together with his team from The Harrow at Little Bedwyn, he has hosted Restaurant Australia in London at the annual Wine Australia Tasting every January for the last 3 years. This January (2016) together with Wine Australia he launched a brand new concept pitting Master Sommeliers against Master of Wines.
Last year he was involved in the Ultimate Sauvignon Blanc tasting at New Zealand House matching food to an array of different styles of Sauvignon. In May he worked with Negociants at The London Wine Fair matching food to their premium wine portfolio, and last year hosted the food and wine matching masterclass for WOSA at the South African High Commission.
